032 – Reuben Keeney ‘Saxophone’

Remixes: Paolo Mojo & digital:punks

Reuben Keeney has already won Ireland’s Best New Artist at the Irish Dance Music Awards for 2009, had remixes out on Nic Fanciulli’s Saved label, the mighty Global Underground and Steve Mac’s label sMACk, and of course recently on Spin Out…and he’s only 16 years old. If he wasn’t so lovely, we all might have to hate him a little bit. With support of his tracks coming from esteemed underground artists such as Oliver Huntemann, Stephan Bodzin and Martin Eyerer right through to mainstream support from the likes of Judge Jules and Annie Mac, he’s sure to get some serious support over the next few years! His recent remix of Richard Dinsdale’s Future has gained huge support from the likes of Funkagenda, Mark Mendes and more and we’re sure his debut original out in May will do even better!

His original track ‘Saxophone’ has really got us going since the moment we heard it. The cool and subtle Sax lead really pulls the track together. The pumping techno bassline and percussion keep the underground groove of the track rolling along and it builds in a Dubfire-esque style before plodding along with the uber cool Sax lead. One might be inclined to call it an ‘anthem’, but we would just call it ‘fucking cool’.

The first remix on this release comes from Paolo Mojo who sticks to the main ideas of the original but adds an addition tribal groove to it. Bongo beats with an underlying deep tech bassline, combine with the cut up Sax lead and swinging percussion to really get you grooving along. The extra hi hats keep giving the track extra energy before taking you into a sweet breakdown similar to that of the original… Horns at the ready!

The final remix comes from our young guns digital:punks. This remix is on a more housey tip with a fusion of classic house and tech house ideas. The rhythmatic percussion really drives the track and the bouncy bassline compliments the beats perfectly. The additional disco filters and techy stabs give another dimension to the pumping vibe keeping you on your merry little feet for the duration!

Listen up cus’, you can expect to hear at least one of these tracks in a club near you soon.
