Who or what first got you into production & djing?
Ben: DJing, I guess it would have to be hearing my older sisters dance compilations , The Annual ect and fact that it was a continuous mix of music that didn’t get boring and took you places. I always loved going into record shop and finding great new music collecting it and sharing it with friends before I started DJing, so DJing was the next step. Production wise, I think its natural progression. I was always interested in how the music I was collecting and playing was made so thought I would learn a bit about it and give it ago.
Mike: Djing, would be when i used to listen to my older brothers cd’s like The Ministry Of Sound and Dance Nation compilations etc. From an early age i have always loved dance music, so when discovering the work and equipment behind making a long mix of tunes, i bought some decks and haven’t look backed since. With regards to production, i have always had a great interest in how music is put together. I feel production was a natural progression from djing so once i’ve learnt a bit, we hope to get some of our stuff out there.
Who, since then has been your biggest influence?
Ben: A few people really, Nic Fanciulli, Steve Lawler, Luciano. All wicked DJs and producers as well as running some of most consistent House & Techno record labels out there .
Mike: Dubfire, Nic Fanchiulli, Luciano, to name a few. After seeing these guys work a dance floor and having produced big hitters consistently over recent years, they blow me away every time.
Do you have a favourite place or somewhere where you get the best reaction?
Ben: Well we always get a nice reaction at the Spin Out parties, there’s always a great crowd there.
Mike: Ibiza springs to mind! A very magical place and somewhere i can see myself going quite a bit in the future. Best reaction would have to be at the SpinOut parties. The music, atmosphere, people are all brilliant!
What is the most interesting comment you have heard about your music?
Ben: A couple of people have told us , they like how we vary the music we play, from deeper moody stuff to more jackin’ party music…… I guess that’s interesting?
Mike: Same really, we’ve heard people like the way we adapt to gigs. Playing stuff from deep, moody techno to more uplifting party tunes.
What’s the single most exciting thing about dance music at the moment in your opinion?
Ben: We like how its constantly evolving and there’s always fresh music to be found.
Mike: With dance music, it’s always exciting if you love it. The best thing about it, is it’s always evolving and experimental.
What inspires you?
Ben: Everything really….. Life in general. There’s so much out there to be seen, heard and felt. That is inspiring.
Mike: Life, to summarize.
What is the magic hangover cure?
Ben: Partying and when you can party no more……. Sleep.
Mike: More partying? If not, then taking it really easy in the sun!
What would you say is the most difficult aspect of music production?
Ben: Well as we’re quite new to it, we could give you a list of a few things I find difficult….. but I guess finishing something to the point that your happy with it…. But maybe that never fully happens??
Mike: Well seeing as i am still learning my ways with production and is fairly new to me, i could mention a few things i find challenging but if i was to say one, then maybe being 100% satisfied with what you’ve put together. Another perspective is always handy.
Define yourself in 3 words?
Ben: Lost in music.
Mike: A true Gentleman.
What’s your No.1 chat-up line?
Ben: Not really my sort of thing….
Mike: I don’t believe in chat up lines. It may work for some people but I’d rather get the conversation rolling.
What are your plans for the rest of the year in terms of production and general music related business? What is your aim as a producer, what ambitions have you got?
Ben: Keep learning as much as we can on the production side of things and at some point over the next few years release some music. DJ as much as possible and see where it all takes me…….
Mike: As producing goes, the aim is to finish my 1st year at college and continue to learn to the point where we can start releasing stuff. Hopefully not too far away. Also, playing as many gigs as we can and see how it all plans out …
