Now then, now then, if you’re an avid i-DJ reader then you’ll shortly see this competition cropping up in their next issue….and since you’re already here, we thought we’d give you the goods a few days early…
Here’s what the lovely folks at i-DJ have to say about it:
Hold the phone, stop the press, pause the iPod. Every so often there comes a competition offering a reward that’s a cut above the standard ‘lifetime’s supply of haemorrhoid cream’, or equivalent rubbish that some companies try to pass off as a prize these days. This, dear readers, is one such competition…The esteemed folk over at Spinout Records (that’s us!) are launching a remix contest with a twist. Not only will the winning production get a release on the label, Spinout will also be awarding the lucky budding artist a place on a music production course of their choice at the world famous Acadamy of Contemporary Music in Guildford. As if that weren’t enough, they’re also chucking in a brand new Vestax VCM-600 controller, perfect for Ableton Live, as well. Crikey, you can keep your bloody bum cream!*
The track up for re-work is Adam Shaw’s ‘Organyc’ – a jackin’ little techno number complete with ghostly vocals, super-jazzy keyboard and chock full of shoulder-wiggling groove. The winning edit will be released alongside the original, as well as another remix by a very special guest. While the label are open to a wide range of interpretations on the original track, entrants should be aware of the largely house and techno based nature of their back catalogue, and remixes should fit broadly within this spectrum. To get hold of the parts of the track head over to the member’s area of the Spinout website, where they are available for download. Join now>
As for the prize itself, having been in the business for over 12 years now the ACM really is at the forefront of music industry education. Offering classes in everything from individual instruments to digital music production, a qualification from any of its prestigious courses is a serious accolade to the enterprising young music producer. The successful candidate can choose any course from the Academy program, ranging from part-time beginner all the way up to diploma level. Needless to say, this is a serious prize up for grabs.
And what better accompaniment to take with you to class than the Vestax VCM-600? Boasting 160 different paramaters of software control, it features high quality input and crossfaders as well as a lightweight build and easy plug-and-play compatability. It even comes with a free copy of Ableton live 8 LE! Check it out at www.vestax.com.
This competition really is a chance to kickstart the musical career of any aspiring artist. The deadline for entries is October 1 2009, and entrants can upload their efforts either via the above mentioned Spinout website or through a specially set up Soundcloud drop-box. Get stuck in!
*Winner can choose one course from the Music Production courses offered at the world-famous ACM facilities in Guildford. Prize value up to £1,200. Courses valid 2009 – 2010. Subject to individual skill level and previous education level. This offer has no monetary substitution and is non-transferable.
