Meet M.in

M.in….its a name you’ll be hearing quite a bit around the Spin Out camp. He’s done a crackin’ remix of our forthcoming tune by Schadenfreude entitled ‘Rio Bravo Del Norte’ (its already receiving massive DJ support, more on that soon) and he also happens to be making his UK Dj debut at our 5th birthday party! So we strongly suggest you come on down to the 31st of October to bear witness and, well, shake your ass with us. But in the meantime, read a little bit about the man and the music that is M.in.

You can buy the release on the 12th of October so don’t miss out.

What’s the first record you bought?
Hahaha! What a question. It was a long time ago! I was 11 years old. At the Now! Recordstore in Mainz – Germany and it was Ruffneck – Whoomp (there it is) on Draft Rec. 002 a hardcore techno record from 1991! This was also the time i started djing.

What or who has been your biggest influence?
My brother cause he also was a hobby dj, that’s why i started djing 11 years ago! And Patrick Lindsey cause he’s helped me a lot in the last two years! We did a remix together for my old project Kaufmann & Ferdinand (Betz & Mule – Rattle ‘n’ Roll / Patrick Lindsey vs Kaufmann & Ferdinand Remix) and we’ve also recently done a remix for Radio Slave – coming soon! I have learned so much from him!

Which do you enjoy most – Djing or Producing?
To produce tracks is my passion but also so much hard work! If you’ve ever been stuck in a small studio for three days 12hours the day and you only come out with one remix then you know what i am talking about. So I enjoy djing  most cause i can travel around the globe, see different places, eat new kinds of food (i love to taste something new) and meet nice people!

Greetings to all the people who like my stuff!

What’s the most ridiculous promotional thing you’ve done?
To give away some chupa chups lollypops! We give them away at every gig we had as Kaufmann & Ferdinand and the people loved it. But after the people started calling us lollypop guys – we stopped it. And we did a music movie for a track from our label Kaufe Musik – Derbe Grasland – We want to play (Jesse Rose Remix) this was also really crazy, have a look…i am the rabbit hahaha.

What is the single most exciting thing about dance music at the moment, in your opinion?
It’s really hard to answer this question cause i think that dance music is in a bit of a bad situation at the moment. But I do love the new house movement cause i don’t like that electro house stuff. That was the reason why i stopped playing (vocal) house music 4 years ago. But I think that the good old house music is back!!! Maybe that is also the reason for my success as i love doing this kind of music! As i started djing in clubs and parties i played house music from guys like DJ Tonka, DJ Sneak or Derrick Carter and you can play these tracks again now! I would say that the true house music feeling or the soul of house music is back!

Was there a moment you knew you wanted to make music your life?
Sure! I think it was in the elementary school as i played my first instrument! After that i always tried to make music. In my breakdance time i started to produce with a computer, turntable and two tape decks but it was really complicated! But we created some cool breakdance tracks or maybe they should be called tools…

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
Stay the way you are!

What’s your personal favourite track that you’ve produced?
Every month i have a new one! At the moment i love ‘It’s Just Because’ and ‘It’s My House’.

From my already released tracks i would say: M.in & Patrick Kunkel feat Harold Todd ‘Frauen & Blumen’ or M.in & Patrick Kunkel feat Eddy Pirax ‘Late at Night’…I can’t decide which one is better!

What are your favourite production tools/gadgets?
Ableton Live 8, T-Racks 3, Korg Legacy Collection, Izotope Ozone 3, everything from D16 Group and my Sample Library!

Which DJ/Producers are rocking your boat these days?
Leon (Cecille, Viva Music) – i love his stuff on Viva Music! One of the best tracks of the year!

Thomas Schumacher (Get Physical) – He is a great producer and a nice guy. His new style is amazing and powerful! I like it!

DJ Emerson (Micro.fon, Kiddaz.FM, Stylerockets) – Emerson is a good friend of mine and i love the tracks he made with Helmut Dubnitzky! Very cool sound.

Patrick Lindsey (Funkwelle.net, Sci + Tec) – Patrick is one of my best friends and he helped me a lot! But that’s not why i loving his stuff. He is more techno then i am at the moment but he is the best producer i know. He had so much great productions in the last 15 years! And i know that he is back soon with some real killer tracks!!!

What can the Spin Out faithful expect to see you dressed as at our 5th Birthday Halloween Party?
Hmm … It is my first Halloween party every. The German carnival is something completely different or? Maybe I will come as a rabbit or as myself (i know it’s boring hahaha). But i will bring some good records with me, new stuff and hot shit!
